October part 2

October has been an extremely busy month.  So much to do and see and try and explore!  Our Fall Celebration yesterday was the perfect ending to a wonderful month.  I hope that you enjoy these pictures.  The kids asked me several times this week when I was going to put them on the computer so that they could see them at home ;)

Literacy Center fishing ;)

Math attribute trains

During this morning's Phonics lesson, the kids wrote a number of -OG family words and then some sentences using the words from their list.

Our first Character Counts winners for the school year

Science - Exploring our sense of sound

Just before dismissal, our fifth-grade helper Isabelle read a book to the kids.

Listening Center
There's nothing like a good book!

More Literacy Centers

Our third-grade Buddies came for a visit and Mrs. Triebel read Todd Parr's The Thankful Book to the kids.  Then, they worked to create leaf hands and and write about things for which they are thankful.  I neglected to get a picture of the finished product but I will for my next post.  The tree is hanging in the hallway near the Health Room.

These kids are KINDERAUTHORS and have been generously sharing the books that they have written with their classmates :)

Bragging time!  We won the Golden Book Award, the Golden Record and the Golden Dustpan all in the same week.

After we read My Mouth Is a Volcano, we talked about ways that we can be mindful about interrupting and calling out in a group ;)

Our 5 Senses pocket chart activity

A benefit to having the classroom iPad is being able to do a little "research" during Guided Reading Group Time :)

This was one of my favorite activities of the month.  The kids added their own word cards to their word rings.  We talked about and practiced how to open the rings, pinching the pile of word cards to keep the holes aligned, threading the ring through the holes and then closing the ring before dropping the twenty word cards all over the carpet.  We did it!  It was a great time of growth mindset... "I might not be able to do something at first... but I WILL do it. "

Literacy Centers

Happy Hawk has started his visits with families. I took him to the apple orchard with my own kids a few weekends ago.  He is with his second classmate this weekend.  They will ALL get a turn and we acknowledge and discuss the challenge of waiting for one's own turn.  It's hard!  ;)

A little morning engineering work going on here... building marble runs!

Recess on RED Day :)

Michele Baisey, FCPS Teacher Specialist for Early Childhood Education, sent us this wonderful present!  Form tens frames.  I took a Kindergarten Math class with her last winter and we used these. I mentioned how much I would like to have a classroom set and I got a package in the mail... voila!

YELLOW Day

Using a classroom resource when reading color words

Make-shift desks... I asked if they were comfortable there and they assured me that they were ;)

Science - exploring our sense of smell

Inside recess... multiple projects going on here, legos, Lincoln Logs and marble runs!

Math clip cards

BLUE Day

Field trip to the Weinberg Center

Morning time... they LOVE the wands!

Our Scavenger Hunt Nature Walk to explore the beautiful fall day with FOUR of our senses ;)

and it just happened to be GREEN Day

Morning puzzles

We worked on the letter P last week and the kids LOVE sharing the models for each letter.  They hide them in their hands until the big reveal ;)

During Writing last week, the kids incorporated stickers into their illustrations.

Another day of KINDERAUTHORS sharing their books.

County employees were working on our projector one morning and so we had to stay off the rainbow carpet.  Puzzles, puzzles and more puzzles.

Another Phonics activity last week was a hunt around the room for words with the letter P.

Morning Time... there were all listening to Crankenstein ;)

I "hid" pink and purple word cards around the room with pictures and words that begin with the /p/ sound.  The kids searched the room and wrote them on post-its with a pencil.

Math Rotations

Birthday Boy!

Listening to a monster book on Thursday morning (I can't remember the title right now!)

Heading out to meet our Buddies for the parade

We used all FIVE senses to explore our pumpkin... well, some of the kids did.

Another fine motor skill ... hanging up their pumpkins on the clothes line

CUTIES!

Math in costumes :)

Some of the kids shared their books with us.

Party favors!  Thank you Ms. Ray!!!!!

I was able to check in with my daughter's fifth grade party and my son's (being wrapped up like a mummy!) third grade party.

Party time!  What fun :)

Have a wonderful weekend!
