September Part II

I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that tomorrow is October 1!  The month of September FLEW by and I know from experience (!) that October will do the same ;) 

As full and new as our first two weeks of school were for the Kinders, the remainder of the month was the same.  We added Math Rotations and Literacy Centers and the Kinders are learning our routines for both independent practice as well as for guided practice of skills.  I have been able to assess about 75% of the students on their Quarter 1 Math standards and I anticipate being able to finish the remainder of students tomorrow.  We are also almost finished with the KRA assessments (a national-wide Kindergarten Readiness Assessment).  We had a great discussion about assessments and the Kinders are understanding my role during small group instruction/assessment as well as their role in small independent groups.  I am really proud of them!

Plus, have you heard, we have 23 Soaring with Pride stickers already!  A celebration is coming this week ;)  

Look for the October newsletter in your mailbox later this afternoon. We have a lot going on this month.  


We began our Phonics lessons and they have been terrific.  The Kinders are already able to respond (correctly!) to so many of my review questions about consonants and vowels, sounds vs. letters, capital and lower case forms, short vowel sounds and letter-sound correspondence.


I have the ipads up and running now as a Center.  So far, they are the Center that is at my Teaching Table so that I am there to assist Kinders to stay on task ;) 







Mr. Wiles stayed with my class while I got my flu shot in the Health Room.  I wasn't even gone for 10 whole minutes ;)

I taught the Kinders a game called "Hide the Cookie" and they LOVE it :)

In Social Studies, we listened to The Rainbow Fish and then participated in a great activity during which the kids asked for and shared colored scales so that everyone could have a "rainbow" fish.














Then the Kinders enjoyed reading the 15 books that I found in which the Rainbow Fish is the main character.



They really have done a great job cleaning up our classroom materials after lessons and activities. 


We worked on identifying appropriate behaviors in the cafeteria.
