January (and a few days into February)

Happy New Year!  We have hit the ground running in 2018... so many things going on in Kindergarten. We are doing our best to keep the germs out of our classroom... thank you to those who donated cleaning wipes and tissues!  I really appreciate it. I am constantly reminding the kids not to touch their faces, any part, and if they do, to wash their hands.  Please re-iterate this at home so that it becomes automatic for them ;)  Six more weeks of winter, did you hear?

In Math, we finished our unit on the teen numbers.  It is important for the kids to gain fluency in recognizing representations of numbers, as well as creating sets and writing the actual numbers without any reversals.

This was a fun Math Rotation... creating sets of teen numbers with the dotters... witha little hand-eye coordination and spatial reasoning mixed in too!

Builders during Application Centers

Practicing indentifying opposites

This is a big one, decomposing numbers.  We will re-visit this skill in a few weeks.  We had fun using fruits, dinosaurs, people, vehicles and colored cubes to practice this important math skill.

"Mrs. Vetter, why don't you take our selfie?"
;)

Visit from our Buddies!

Mrs. R came for a visit and we worked on spatial reasoning.

Our goals for 2018!

More decomposing numbers

We used small stickers to practice our new sight word, play.  This was a great fine motor practice and it was fun!

And more decomposing...

SHOE TYING CLUB!
I need members :)  So far, five friends have joined the shoe tying club.
Please practice at home.  I have them tie their own shoes here at school and home provides many more opportunities for practice.

Our next Math unit was a quick review of 2D shapes and the introduction of 3D shapes.

Groundhog Day!
We enjoyed learning about groundhogs and then testing with our own groundhogs if winter will continue.  We also watched Phil make his official prediction

We can ALL sign into the computers now with our own user id!  Applause, applause.

Some 2D and 3D shapes Math Rotations:)

We are reading both fiction and non-fiction books about penguins.  We learned that penguins keep their eggs on top of their feet to keep them warm so of course, we gave it a try ourselves!

I hope you enjoy seeing your Kinder so busy during the day!  We have so much to look forward to next week with our 100th Day of Kindergarten and the Valentine's Day celebration!
