January and February

My oh my, do I owe you all some pictures!  I just downloaded 260+ from my phone ;)
Here is what we have been up to in Kindergarten in 2017!

"Mrs. Vetter!  Take a selfie!"

Practicing creating teen numbers with various math tools

Research using our Chromebooks

Creating sets to compare value ~ identifying those that are greater than and less than

Tic-Tac-Teen :)

These Kinders really enjoyed using the peg boards and rubber bands.  After a lesson about the appropriate use of rubber bands ;), we were all set!  Mr. Watkins even came in to see us.

Memory ... they matched different ways of showing teen numbers... tens frames, random images, numerals, tens rods and ones blocks, etc.
Once we learn all the games and activities, we are ready for Math Rotations.

Adding sentence strips to our word rings.

Hat Day! :)

Some CVC practice during Phonics

 Writing "How-to" books

Recess :)

Computer lab

Application Centers

We used various non-fiction resources to learn about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In Social Studies, we discussed the structure and attributes of families.

The kids really enjoyed our study of 2D and 3D shapes.

We even worked with Tangrams.

Our New Year's Goals :)

Exploration of shapes in the computer lab

We had a visit with Mrs. R to explore more ways that our brains grow and strengthen connections between neurons.

We made it to 100 DAYS OF KINDERGARTEN!

We sorted and counted and then shared with a gallery walk our 100 items.

Then we created portraits of ourselves at age 100.

Probably the kids' favorite activity was making a snack... of 100 things!  :)

We also made a list of 100 words we know.

Preparing to become members of the shoe-tying club!

The kids have enjoyed using the Chromebooks in our classroom.  We share 15 with the three other Kindergarten classrooms so I try to reserve them as frequently as possible.  Sometimes we just have five but that works for Literacy Centers rotations.

During our unit on non-fiction texts, we focused on penguins and very much enjoyed watching the Penguin-Cam at the San Diego Zoo.

More shape exploration activities along with fine motor practice

Preparing for our Valentine's Day party by making bags

THIS is why I have to check out about 30 books from the library each week :)

Literacy Centers

Field trip to the Weinberg Center

So sweet :)

Sometimes I ask myself, WHY did you let them take out the stickers?!?!

Party time!  Thank you Mrs. Gore and Ms. Romans for another terrific time!

Creating 2D and 3D shapes with play-dough.  We pushed the tables together and it was like a board meeting, you know, with five and six-year-olds! ;)

Love :)

Read Across America Week activities
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

I spend Guided Reading Group time like a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs... but wanted to give you an overdue peek at how we are working.

Crazy clouds at recess

We had to check in on the Polar Cam too!

Celebrating 200 Soaring with Pride stickers with Backwards Day.  We started with Application Centers and went back to Calendar/Weather.  And, of course, we say backwards ;)

"Keep your teacher happy"
:)

Visit to the Multicultural Fair on March 3.  The presenters were SO generous in allowing the kids to explore and try on some of their belongings.

Shew, I feel as though I just folded 15 loads of laundry after letting it pile up!  Enjoy these pictures of your wonderful Kinders :)
