January 2016

I had a very productive day today and just left school as the snow was beginning to fall.  I want to get these January pictures up for you so that you can enjoy seeing them this weekend.  This month has gone so quickly... we have been busy, busy and I have fewer pictures than usual because I spent a good amount of time on the interview assessments.  I am 99% done!  until next quarter ;)

Have a good weekend, stay safe and warm and I will see all my Kinders next week!

The kids are really enjoying exploring teen numbers.

We wrote about 40 sight and CVC words on this morning!

They absolutely LOVE write-the-room activities.  Here they are searching for words that were missing their beginning sounds.  Such great thinkers we have in our class!

Building teen numbers with ones cubes and tens rods.
My little mathematicians! :)

We have SO MUCH going on in the mornings from 8:30 until 8:55.  It's a crazy time but fun and full of learning and exploring.

We have been talking about the days of the week since our first week of Kindergarten, but now are learning to recognize and read those words as well as write a book about our activities on each day.

Building teen numbers on double tens frames.

We read several books about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the weeks both preceeding and following his birthday.  Here the kids are writing their dreams for a better world.

Literacy Centers

Another activity to build fluency with teen numbers... stickers on tens frames!  (I threw in some fine motor skills practice with those TINY stickers)

The Shoe-Tying Club has begun.  Here, Isabelle was showing the kids how to tie shoelaces using one of our many practice models.  The kids are just BEAMING when they get those shoelaces tied!  I'm so proud of their perseverance :)

Matching numerals with their representations on double tens frames.

Our write-the-room for the letter Z.

I love this picture... inside recess and these kids are electing to practice tying shoelaces :)

Yes, this is Math on Wednesday :)

Busy mathematicians building teen numbers

Here the kids are finding their matching-number partner using numerals and tens frames.

 Success!

Morning time on Thursday...

I just love Todd Parr and we read this book during our Social Studies unit on Families.  Then the kids made hearts with their family members.  Next up, "Problem Solving," which will be timely for all this indoor recess that we are probably facing ;)

Have a safe, fun weekend in the snow!  :)
