First go at Literacy Centers

Monday was our first time at Literacy Centers.  The kids did a great job.  These centers will continue throughout the year and during this time, starting next week, Reading Groups will meet with me.

This particular week, there are six centers and the students are in groups of two, three or four.  They will rotate through the six centers over six days.  During this initial set of Literacy Centers the kids are working on writing their names using only one capital letter and the rest lower case letters, making a book similar to Chick Chicka Boom Boom which reviews concepts of print and fine motor skills, sorting capital and lower cases letters which also develop fine motor skills, listening to Froggy Rides a Bike and writing a review, completing several tasks on Starfall about particular letters, sorting letters from numbers and finally, as an extra center for those who finish early, attaching some letters to our classroom coconut tree and recording their creations.

Our next set of Literacy Centers begins next Wednesday.  There will be different activities, books, skills, tasks and groupings throughout the year.
